IF: Gathering 2015 changed the trajectory of my ministry in a profound way. God put a new word on my heart, which I had the blessing of writing on a rock and briefly sharing with our sisters in Austin and online. STILL, as in whatever your age, God STILL will use you.
So . . . when in doubt if God STILL has plans for us - the answer is YES! Let's empty ourselves of US and make room to be filled with HIM!
Monday, February 16 will be our last night FOR THIS BIBLE STUDY. We will meet at 6pm instead of 6:30 - we will lead off with our devotion, have a short discussion then enjoy your gifts of food for our celebration.
I will make arrangements with Ruth House to visit them on Thursday, February 19th. If that changes I will let you know.
Our next study will be EXPECTING TO SEE JESUS by Anne Graham Lotz which will begin on March 9th at 6:30.
We spoke about our love for serving and cautioned ourselves not to let it become about us. Empty me of me so I can be filled of you is a perfect lead into the first Teaching Outline I wrote in December 2012 and pasted below. You will see what Jesus expects of us.
Please … Hold The Applause!!! (Matthew 6:1)
I. Concentration: on performing good works for the needy.
1. “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people . . .” (v.1a)
2. “. . . in order to be seen by them, . . .” (v.1b)
3. “. . . for then you will have no reward . . .” (v.1c)
4. “. . . from your Father who is in heaven.” (v.1d)
II. Meditation: on giving Glory to our Father.
1. Jesus cautioned His disciples about performing good works before an audience for the purpose of their own glory.
2. Jesus points out that their prideful display would only be for the purpose of applause by those here on earth.
3. Jesus tells them if they receive their accolades now, none will be given when they really matter.
4. Jesus reminds His disciples that there is One Above who will clap the loudest.
III. Revelation: on keeping our eye on the prize.
1. While performing good works, we must be conscious of not putting the spotlight on us, and if that does happen, we should find other ways to continue our good works in private.
2. Throughout the Gospels, we see how Jesus healed and performed miracles for God’s glory; we should model these lessons for how we should perform our good works – not to be seen by “them” of this earth, but for the Glory of God.
3. If we are performing our good works for that “earthly” pat on the back, then we have misunderstood our purpose and will miss out on our true reward.
4. Our Heavenly Father is the One and Only who will dole out the most worthy prize.
IV. Application: As a Christian, I need to:
1. Be careful that I am not performing good works in front of an audience for my own recognition instead of for God’s glory … but if I see I am … I need to pause and change my approach.
2. Learn humility and constantly remind myself … I am not doing these good works for the praise from others, but for the benefit of the needy and the Glory of God.
3. Know that there is no earthly reward I could ever receive that could begin to compare with any spiritual reward I may receive in Heaven.
4. Praise God for giving me these opportunities to move within these earthly cells and work among His prisoned children who have such a tremendous need for love and compassion.
