Ready for the Road
“You have dwelt long enough at this mountain. Turn and take your journey… For the Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand. He knows your trudging through this great wilderness.” (Deuteronomy 1:6, 7; 2:7 NKJV)
Reflect for a moment over the past year. Consider how God has “blessed you in all the work of your hands, during this year.” No doubt you encountered tremendous struggles. God is now bringing you to the close of the year. You will never pass this way again. Ahead of you is a journey that will take a year. You are going to tread new territory – a place of hills and the valleys; places where you will enjoy the heights and the highlights, but also places in dark ditches.
This past year has been a year of learning and testing; a time of purifying you; a time of grace in the next stages of your journey with Jesus. Keep your eye on your Canaan – your hill of blessing, your service for Jesus.
The Children of Israel spent much time in deep valleys on their road to Canaan. They endured suffering and bondage in Egypt, but they came out with much wealth in the form of gold, silver, jewels and costly garments. They had to pass through a lengthy period in the wilderness. They had to cross a Sea and a river in flood and then fight their enemies, but in the end God gave them Canaan, the land He promised them.
Get ready to go!
