On Sunday's I collect non-perishable food from within my Village of Largo - it is then transported to the Wildwood Food Pantry on Mondays. My Goddaughter, Brianna (12 years old) spent the weekend with me. She made a special request that she get to go with me on Sunday to collect food. We had a great time together - it takes about an hour - we talked about the need of those who have so much less than we. She said she was glad she had this opportunity to make a difference in some people's lives. She was touched by God through this experience. Let me know if you have a child who is visiting who would like to experience this. Thank you for your continued generous contributions to our Community United Methodist Church Food Pantry where our volunteers stock shelves, bag non-perishable groceries, meet with families, complete registration information with them and load their vehicle with food to provide nourishment for their bodies.

Luke 6:38 “Give and it shall be given to you… For the measure you measure with will be measured back to you.” If you were with us last year, you had the joy of selecting a boy or a girl - buying gifts - filling a shoe box (or more) - enclosing a check for $7.00 to cover postage - and knowing that somewhere in this world the LOVE OF JESUS CHRIST was being shown to a child because of you! For those who would like to participate, I will be collecting these shoe boxes again this year. The collection period is from November 17 - 24. Since our last class FOR THIS STUDY will be held on November 3rd - I'd like to collect them by that date. Please let me know so I know who to collect from. I found some wonderful little Christian children's booklets (individual stories from the Bible) at the Family Christian Book Store at the Rolling Acres Plaza - my recollection is they cost a dollar or so per book. THIS is a wonderful gift to include based upon the age of child you select. They also sell small Bibles for about $5.00 which may be appropriate, again based upon the age or the language spoken - they have English and Spanish Children's Bibles. The volunteers who review the items in your box would ensure it was sent to a child speaking the appropriate language. BARB G. needs us to pray for some health issues she is struggling against.
ANNA B. needs prayer for severe back pain. A new treatment is being planned and she really needs God to bring relief through that or however. JUDI C.s eyes were sensitive and tearing in class tonight. Continued healing prayers are needed. LUCILLE J. is asking us to pray her RA to quit flaring so she can get her rotator cuff repaired! JUDY W. asks for prayer for her IBS to go away. YUK! LORRAINE W. requests prayer for an unspoken request. LOIS B. Is struggling with her attitude regarding ongoing migraine related illness for her husband. Let's pray for her and him both. Healing would solve both problems. And a praise for LOIS B. too! She had the opportunity to share with her brother DAN that we are praying for him and he responded positively. Keep praying! Our sister MARLENE H. Is experiencing strong knee pain and was unable to attend tonight. Please pray for her. Missionaries are in extremely dangerous places in the world. Please pray for them and all the people who are stuck in the middle of horrible situations that they have no part in or control over. We've been praying for Dreams S.'s friend, Gail M. She's been fighting cancer and has had a pet scan. She's waiting for results and needs continued prayer. Please continue to pray for battered baby CLARA, for healing and for her future - that God would direct all decisions for her best life. ELIZABETH D. has missed two classes with us because of a bad back and it still needs more prayer. Also, her son and his girlfriend, Nicholas and Ashley, went to church Sunday. She's asking us to agree with her that God would continue to woo them to him. Janie and Kathy will no longer be able to join us as we journey due to other commitments. Let us pray for them and their Spiritual growth. Judi asks for prayers for all the Residents, Team, Officers and Jail staff as we develop the REC (Residents Encounter Christ) program to enter the jail in Orlando on December 21st, 22nd and 23rd. This is a special blessing for all involved as these Residents will not physically see any other people outside the walls of the jail as we celebrate the birth of our Lord. May God keep Satan away from all involved as we bring the love of Christ to these precious men and women. Precious Father – what wonderful lessons You taught us through our study of the “Adulteress” in the book of John. You taught us to listen as Jesus did when the accusers brought her forward. So many times we go right into defense mode trying to work our way out of a situation that we haven’t even listened or thought it through. You showed us patience and restraint. You showed us that none of us has the right to judge and condemn others – regardless of how well we know the law / Your Word. You taught us to look within ourselves for our own sin, and therefore we are not to throw that first stone or any stone . We learned that no one is too broken to be loved, protected and accepted by You – that you show grace and mercy to all of us, without favoritism. We learned that each and every one of us can start over, ask forgiveness and leave our past behind. Father we are so very grateful for the lessons You have provided all generations. We come to You and to these studies to make us better Christians, more Christ-like. We ask you to continue to guide us and to show us the way. We thank You for all You provide for us, each and every day. We love You and honor You. It’s in the name of Jesus that we pray. Amen. Deuteronomy 16:10-17 “...No one shall appear before the Lord empty-handed, but each of you with as much as he can give, in proportion to the blessings which the Lord, God has bestowed on you.” Thank you for your generosity last week - we collected 20 non-perishable food items and about 15 small bars of soap. Twice weekly (Tuesday and Thursday) our church uses your contributions to pack the bags for those who need assistance with food. We are also heading into the holiday seasons where the church will be providing a turkey for Thanksgiving and a ham for Christmas, in addition to the usual food items. Any donations we make will help them fill the shelves for the weekly needs, along with the upcoming holiday needs. May you be blessed as you bless others. There are many Scriptures warning us from committing adultery. Here are a few:
Matthew 19:9 And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.” Romans 7:2-3 For a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her husband dies she is released from the law of marriage. Accordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and if she marries another man she is not an adulteress. 1 Corinthians 7:39 A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord. Proverbs 7 is very clear in it's warnings to men to stay away from an adulteress. We don't really need to be reminded that an Adulteress does not act alone. However, in this story, only one person stands accused . . . the woman. We are never told her name. There is no mention of the man - nor is he brought forward to meet his accusers. There are several point to be made in this story - here are a few:
Blessings and love . . . Judi Some of you asked about books we have mentioned during our weekly get together. Of course, there are many, but I have posted those you asked about in the pictures above (double click on them to see the full picture).
Jesus Calling is a wonderful daily devotional (I'm on my second year!) Here is a clip from the author's page: "Jesus Calling is a devotional filled with uniquely inspired treasures from heaven for every day of the year. After many years of writing in her prayer journal, missionary Sarah Young decided to listen to God with pen in hand, writing down whatever she believed He was saying to her." Jesus Lives is a wonderful daily topical book containing 180 topical devotions to exemplify Jesus's presence in your life. Here is a clip from the author's page: "Discover the most exciting truth in the universe: Jesus lives! And from your heart's deepest cry to life's joyful praises, the King of kings is in them all! Knowing Jesus on a deeper, more personal level not only means seeing Him at work in your life, but also sharing your heart with the Savior. Whether you’re struggling your way through a valley or reaping a bounty of blessings, Jesus is very much alive and present. The question is: Do you see Him? Do you recognize His voice? His comforting hand? His desire to fellowship with you?" Jesus Today is a wonderful daily devotional which is actually a sequel to Jesus Calling. From the author's page: "Whether you need a lifeline in your discouragement and hurts or are longing for a close intimate relationship with the Lord, it is written as if Jesus Himself is assuring you that He is in control, that He is good, and that a glorious future awaits all who anchor their hope in Him. You can purchase these books at any of the local bookstores or online through Amazon.com, Christianbooks.com, or any other sites that sell Christian books. Good morning Liz – I hope this email finds you well. We completed the BAD GIRLS OF THE BIBLE on August 25th (everyone LOVED LOVED LOVED IT including the Pinterests that we talked about each week and not to mention I often painted my toes to match – HA!) and began the REALLY Bad Girls on September 8th. The Ladies (Women Journeying Through the Bible - [WJTTB]) are enjoying studying these gals IMMENSELY. We wanted you to know how much we appreciate your studies and your approach. So . . . last night we discussed Jael for TWO HOURS!!! Well, we discussed the Medium of Endor that long as well, but that seemed much more cut and dried. We went round and round about her (as you can imagine) and whether her tent spike and hammer were part of a Divine act or whether she was simply a murderess hailed as a heroine. We would get to the point of reckoning with her, then back to Square 1 again about why she was in the REALLY Bad Girl book if she was led by God. That also got me thinking . . . would Deborah have been hailed a "really bad girl" if she was the one who killed Sisera??? I told my group I would write to you and see if you could share your thoughts on why you put her in the REALLY Bad book versus the Bad or Slighty Bad. Thank you! Your Sisters in Christ . . . Judi and the WJTTB Hi, Judi! THRILLED you have been studying those BGs and RBGs with me! Your question is a good one. I actually answered it in the "Chat with Liz" section in the back of the 2007 edition of Really Bad Girls of the Bible. Here it is: What sets apart the women in this book as Really Bad Girls, compared to the rest of the series? The truth is, these women were remnants—chosen for Bad Girls of the Bible when I was certain I could shoehorn twenty women into one book, then put aside when I realized only ten would fit. Naturally, Bathsheba and company stood around my writing study, hands on hips, demanding a book of their own. I could have called it More Bad Girls of the Bible, but how boring is that? Besides, the eight women in this book were decidedly different than their predecessors. Their stories were more difficult, more challenging, and the dividing line between right and wrong wasn’t always as clearly drawn. Herodias and Athaliah were “Bad and Proud of It,” making them far worse than some of the just plain Bad Girls. Jael and Tamar both flummoxed me, as they committed truly evil deeds yet contributed to God’s cause, making them “Bad for a Good Reason.” The Medium of En Dor and Bathsheba both catered to a king under the darkness of night. Their actions were indeed bad, but did they really have a choice? That moral ambiguity placed them under a “Bad Moon Rising.” And our two grace-bearers of the book, the Adulteress and the Bleeding Woman, were both “Bad, but Not Condemned” by the Lord, who came to set such women free. A really mixed bag, this group of Really Bad Girls. Even if I didn’t like them all as people, I loved the time I spent with them. ---- Judi, had I planned this to be a series from the start, I would have divided the women up very differently. But one book quickly turned into four, so I had to just run with it! Blessings to all! Liz Prayer Requests September 22, 2014
Darla would like us to continue praying for that child that was badly beaten. Her mother, Katie, doesn’t want to care for the child but in her confused state of mind, is not able to make a good decision and perhaps give the child up to caring parents. Carol B’s son’s father-in-law, Joe T is doing much better. Our prayers do get answered. Bette’s 91 year old mother-in-law came through her surgery successfully, that is wonderful news for us all. Darla’s friend, Karen, is going through an awful divorce. At this point, her husband will not sign the divorce papers. Please let us pray for her so she can get through this. Kathy would like us to pray for her friend, Laura’s brother, Jerry. He has cancer and it has now moved to the bones and he is in much pain. Let us pray that whatever happens, it will be pain free. Pam’s high school friend’s daughter, Kimberly has been misdiagnosed and has Legionnaires disease. She has become so ill, that she has only 12% of her heart working. In addition to this, insurance decides what type of care it will pay for. Bette has us praying for Nick. At this time it seems that his tumors are gone. God is so good. One of our members, Anna, has serious back problems. She is going for radio frequency treatments now. Once again there are insurance problems. Judi sent us a special note last week about her friend, Karen, who has been physically abused. The situation had gotten so bad that the police were called and Karen is now in a woman’s shelter. Let us pray she gets through this and makes the decision to stay away from her abuser. This is a very difficult time in her life when she is frightened and alone. None of us can understand why people go back to their abusers. Until we walk a mile in their shoes we cannot understand. Dreama would like us to say a prayer for all children that they go to bed safely and wake up safely in their own beds, loved and cherished by their families. Lois’s brother, Dan, is home and doing better. She would love to have the opportunity to privately speak with him to show him that he has all their support and love. Susie has gone through 3 Chemo sessions and the doctors and now talking about surgery. She is angry and disappointed. Who can blame her? Let us pray that she has the strength to get through this. She is in our thoughts. Heavenly Father - You fill every single need in our lives, as evidenced by Your actions, names and character. We love you and desire to please you in all we do. Please show us the way. Teach us to apply what we are learning as we study Your Word each week - help us to be the ones that reach out to Your Children who are so in need of help, love and understanding. Guide us to show the Love of Christ to those whose paths we cross - guide us to make each day less about ourselves and more about You and how you want us to live our lives. We praise you as the "I Am" and are ever so grateful to hear you say "You Are Mine". In the precious name of Jesus, Amen. Deuteronomy 15:7-8 “If there are poor among you, in one of the towns of the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be selfish or greedy toward them.”
Thank you for your donations last week for the CUMC Food Pantry. Each week our church volunteers collect food, stock shelves, fill bags, greet guests and take the bags of food to their car so that they may nourish their body and the bodies of their family - mostly children. Please consider this while you are shopping this week and set aside one or more non-perishable items to bring with you on Monday. May God continue to bless you as you bless others. When I first read this story, I thought it strange that a woman would use a tent post to kill someone - why not a pot she used for cooking or a club laying around to defend against wild animals??? Curiosity got the best of me so I investigated this further (I like to do this before I've read what Liz has to tell us ;-)
The name "Jael" means "wild or mountain goat" (not a name I'd like to have!!!) or "gazelle" (well . . . that's a little better - no?) and it was fitting of a Bedouin's wife. We had the pleasure of seeing many current day Bedouin camps during our Holy Land journey. We were told that they were squatters. They appeared to set up their tents close to the roadways. We were told that they (somehow) stole electricity - I guess that came in handy for their satellite dishes used for their televisions. In ancient days, Bedouins were a nomadic tribe of desert dwellers - today they still live in non-permanent structures. The government has been trying to figure out a way to charge them taxes, but alas, not to be (yet!). Back to Jael - she was the wife of Heber, the Kenite. In those days the woman was responsible for everything to do with the tent, therefore she became an expert in making, pitching and striking (taking down / disassembling) tents. NOW IT MAKES SENSE and why Jael was able to . . . with a tent pin in one hand and a maul in the other . . . . drive the pin through the skull of the General Sisera as he slept. THIS was not a deed of divine leading, although the victory over Sisera was (Judges 5:10) What else can we learn about Jael's own time??? Hospitality was one of the most strictly adhered to, of all desert obligations, and was a matter of honor. By betraying Sisera, Jael broke this code (of hospitality). So Sisera died - actually he was murdered - he escaped the battle he was supposed to be leading and fell into the hands of a woman (4:9) She lured him into her tent, covered him up, gave him milk, assured him she would shield him from anyone searching for him and watched him fall asleep. THEN she drove a tent nail through his head. She didn't do this in self-defense - she killed him as an assassin kills. The General is killed by a woman. Didn't Deborah tell Barak "the Lord will hand Sisera over to a woman" ??? Isn't that what happened? Wasn't he an enemy of the Israelites??? an enemy of God??? Jael erred because she did not allow God to decide the means of punishment. She acted on her own. Some called her a heroine . . . others say she acted as judge, jury and executioner. Please read: - Judges 4 in your Bible - Chapter 2 in your Book "Really Bad Girls of the Bible" and referenced Scripture - Questions for Chapter 2 in the Workbook and be prepared to discuss next week - Prayer Requests on the blog - Weekly prayer on the blog - Reminder to bring food pantry items Father - we come to you as your humble servants - women who come together to learn your Word and to serve you in the manner you require. This week we have learned much about people and interests that could lead us to the dark side and away from you. We ask that you build a hedge of protection around us, our families and friends, to ensure we do not open the door, even a crack, for evil to enter our lives and those we love. Please guide us in how to speak to our children and grandchildren - to communicate about these topics and make your commands known to them. Guide us to have a gentle approach in our discussions so we don't push them away or into secrecy. Thank you for the love and mercy you show each and every one of us everyday. Thank you for this wonderful group of women who are beginning to know each other and share their thoughts and feelings. Please help us to welcome all whose paths we cross and to grow in our faith. We love you and give you all the glory. In the Name of Jesus, Amen. September 15th Prayer Requests Last evening we had an interesting discussion about the Medium of En Dor. It seems that each week of this class will be more interesting than the last. Lois asks that we pray for her brother, Dan. He is not well and their family is not close at this time. Her sister-in-law is his caretaker. She has very different religious beliefs and Lois is concerned. Judy W would like us to continue our prayers. Although she has not seen a new doctor yet, her back is feeling much improved. Lorraine’s daughter in Maryland is still recovering from her broken ankles. Let us pray for her continued improvement and strength in managing with small children. So happy that Judi’s eyes keep improving. This is a longer recovery that she may have expected. Her sensitivity to light and temperature must be difficult. Bet she looks cute in the eye patch. Debbie needs our prayers for her friend, Karen, who is going through a very painful and difficult divorce. I’m sure there are those of us who can understand the amount of damage to a family. Carol B would like us to pray for her son’s father-in-law with eye disease, and also for his wife, Gloria, who is his caregiver. They need strength to get through these tough times. Barbara G wants us to pray for Audrey who’s husband, Glen, who has passed away recently from hepatitis C. She is having a tough time of it. Darla has not been able to give us an update about the little abused child. She is, I’m sure on our minds and in our prayers. Hoping for better news next week. Dear Lord please consider us. We know you will do the right thing. Small Group Guidelines and Agreement

Some of the Ladies attend via the blog only and I did not include their phone numbers, but you can always email them! What can we possibly learn by studying about the Medium of Endor from a few thousand years ago??? Wasn't she forbidden to practice her craft? Didn't God command . . . "'Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God." (Leviticus 19:31) and didn't He say . . . "'I will set my face against anyone who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute themselves by following them, and I will cut them off from their people." (Leviticus 20:6). The LORD further warns of occult practices (Deuteronomy 18:9-14): When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the Lord your God. The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the Lord your God has not permitted you to do so. Didn't Saul obey the Mosaic Law and put the mediums and spiritualists out of the land? When it suits him and he fears losing at a war, he finds his way to her, but . . . what does any of this have to do with us??? Isn't this all just some fun for GNO (Girls Night Out), a party or something different to do??? Things such as tarot cards, horoscopes, crystal balls, Ouija Boards, Seances and palm readings are modern attempts to practice forms of spiritism. These are dangerous links to the demonic, even if undertaken in a spirit of fun. Christians should have nothing to do with occultic arts or practices. There is One Spirit we should be communicating with and that is the Holy Spirit. As Liz shared with us in her DVD - today our children are being wooed by the romanticism of witchcraft and werewolves - through modern songs, books, and movies - in fact, once they are hooked, they can't wait for the next installment or sequel to come out. As parents and grandparents it is our responsibility to teach our children about God. If we don't . . . someone else will teach them not to. The following Scripture gives us great guidance: 2 Timothy 3:14-15 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Proverbs 22:6 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. Isaiah 38:19 The living, the living—they praise you, as I am doing today; parents tell their children about your faithfulness. In your book, please read Chapter 1 - Dead Man Walking and Medium of En Dor and read the Scripture as referenced . . . then answer the Chapter 1 questions in your workbook (there are a lot of questions so please allow enough time for them).
Please be sure to lift up those needing prayer listed below in your quiet time with the Lord each day. Looking forward to your comments on the blog and discussions in our class. Praise God that we do not go to bed hungry. But . . . many do and many of them are children. Our Community United Methodist Church Food Pantry provides an outreach program for needy families in our community. Each Tuesday and Thursday our church gives away bags of food. The quantity is based upon how many members are in their family. These bags are walked out to their car - with huge smiles and the love of Jesus Christ. Please help to stock the shelves so the bags can be filled. When you place your Bible and your Bible study books on the side table to bring with you to our weekly Monday night study - please consider setting aside some non-perishable items each week. It's so easy and you can even do it without costing you any money if you give away the free one when you "buy one - get one free". In our class room just place them on the right hand side counter as you enter - at the end of our time together, we take them to the Fellowship Hall Kitchen as a love offering. Let us show our love - as Christ commanded us to do. In Matthew 25:35 Jesus tells us "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in" In Matthew 25:40 "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'" Last evening, September 8th, we had our first meeting to study The Really Bad Girls of the Bible. It is my first time at this church and I must say that all were very welcoming. Karyl told us that her friend’s son, Chase, is continuing to improve and may well be home by the end of the month. Judy W is suffering with a sore back situation, after two previous surgeries, and needs our prayers. She is hoping to see a new doctor in the near future. Esther is new in our church community. She is having some adjustment problems going from one church to ours. I know that we all will make a point of including her and her husband in our programs. We have all been newbies at some time in our lives and understand the discomfort. Welcome Esther, you are one of us! Dear Judi C so happy the eye surgery went well and we pray for your continued healing. Bette is asking us to pray for the mother-in-law (91 years old) who is having cancer surgery for nasal tumors in the next week. Let us pray for her survival. Her name is Jo and is dearly loved by Bette and her family. Dear Lois is having a terrible food problem. One I’m sure many of us have wrestled with in our lives. Lois you are such a strong woman. We will all pray and support you in any way we can. You can call me at midnight and I will talk you through it. I truly understand this issue. God will bless you. Darla asks us to pray for a friend. She has an 18 year old granddaughter, Katie, with a 3 month infant girl named Clara. The child has been brutalized by her father and has two broken femurs, ribs, and face and head injuries. We will, of course, make this child a priority in our prayers. Ladies with all of us pulling together…I have faith that God will work with us. Your Sister In Christ - Jane M. Dearest Lord - how we praise You for the group of Women You have brought together to journey through Your Word . . . the Bible. We come to You from all different backgrounds - different places within our walk - different levels of knowledge of You. We ask you to guide us in being welcoming, loving and non-judgmental as we get to know each other.
We look forward to learning about these precious "Really Bad Girls". We know that you have used their pain and brokenness so that we can learn and apply our knowledge. We know we can never earn your love, forgiveness or mercy - we thank you for these precious gifts. Please help us to continue to grow spiritually and in our faith - to use this study to teach us what you expect from us - to see parts of ourselves in the character of these women - to become more Christ-like in our daily lives. We love You, honor You, praise you and do it all for Your glory. Amen. Come away with us as we journey through the lands of ancient times and learn about the Really Bad Girls of the Bible. Many of you enjoyed our journey - learning about ourselves and how we could become more Christ-like - with the Bad Girls of the Bible. We expect these 8 new ladies will teach continue to teach us. We especially look forward to getting to know each other better through sharing and asking for prayer for us individually. If there is one resounding theme I've heard, it's been "I want more Christian Sisters in my life". Well . . . here's your opportunity. Won't you join us??? Dear Friends, Oh how I hate to leave our wonderful Bible study group! Thank you for the tremendous sendoff! I couldn't have been more surprised. The refreshments were delicious, the cards heartwarming, and the goodbye hugs continue to stay with me! As I contine to unpack boxes Monday night, I'll be thinking about you as the new study begins and will be with you in spirit. I send my love to all of you! Linda |
