Unconditional love is not payment for services rendered nor is it a bribe to get what we want. It is a true effort to enhance someone else's life just because we care. Isn't this what God does for each and every one of us every single day?
Scriptures tell us if we choose to live a life of unconditional love for other people, God will give "us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love." (Romans 5:5). Loving is God's lifestyle . . . it is His central desire for us. "So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples" (John 13:34-35).
As Christians - love is what should distinguish us from others - it is our mark. When we love - unconditionally - it means we cannot force the other person to love us back, to reciprocate our love. NO - that would be manipulation. Love is the most influential weapon that can be used for good in this world. If our love is truly unconditional - not just expressed in words, but in actions - then we are doing the most powerful thing that we could do for another person. AND we will then be following the teachings of Jesus.
