Christianity is not widespread in Cotacachi. The following was from an email I received from Dr. Dawn . . . "There are VERY FEW Christian churches. Here in Cotacachi, the Indigenous people with their pagan beliefs combine with the Catholic Church. Everywhere – stores, banks, buses – just everywhere, Mary is worshiped. There are shrines everywhere. Our Presidents believed that Christianity is a sect. Christian schools are at a danger of being closed down, and the last I heard was that no more Christian schools will be allowed to open."
Sadly . . . the little Christian school, Karmel, did not outlast Custom's hold on our shipment of Bibles. They were held in customs for a few months. By the time they were released to Dr. Dawn, the school had been closed and the children scattered back from where they came. We were very saddened by this news. We prayed that the LORD would direct Dr. Dawn on where HE wanted the Bibles.
Dr. Dawn tried many different avenues - traveled long distances via bus to find a "home" for our Bibles, but each door was closed to her. One time, as the internet cabling was torn apart by a storm - 4 Indigenous workers came to Gerry-rig the wires to get them back in service . . . sporadically.
If you access the button below you can read the full story of whose hands those Bibles are now finding a home. Once again . . . the LORD has worked HIS PLAN in HIS TIME. PRAISE GOD!!!
