Believers are told not to hold a grudge; instead, love your enemies. Holding a grudge is hating someone in your heart. If you go on hating someone, you really need to question if you have really understood the forgiveness of God yourself. You may not really have understood God's forgiveness if you can still hold that level of hatred in your heart. Let go of seeking revenge and leave the final justice to God (Romans 12). Overcome evil with good. When necessary, seek justice through legitimate ways. We pray, "Forgive us our debts, as we have also forgiven our debtors" (Matthew 6:12)
Forgiveness is a decision not to hold something against someone who has hurt or offended us. It is an act of the will and involves releasing a legitimate claim we may have against another for an offense.
